only back in the house for about five minutes and our car was only ten metres from our house, how could it be that they had been stolen in that short space of time??
It was now 1:30 am and Linda rang the police and, true to form, they weren’t in the slightest bit interested in coming around (they might have caught them as it must have been two people with 2 suitcases, 1 rucksack and a carrier bag) - I mean it isn’t rocket science is it? They just gave us a crime number and said go on your holiday and try to forget what happened – yeah, right, with no suitcases & no clothes.
Linda was crying and shaking and said we would have to stop at home. I calmed her down, talked her into going, and decided if we don’t go now we would miss the flight (it was now 2:00 am and the flight was at 6:00 am and it was 130 miles to Manchester Airport!). Upstairs I found an old suitcase with one wheel and rips all over it, and I got Linda to put in as many of her clothes as possible and I just went with what I was dressed in. We set off for the airport at record speed, with luck there were no police knocking about, and we arrived at 5:00 am. We went straight to check-in where
the girl looked at our case and the weight and probably thought we’ve got a couple of ‘right ones’ here.
We had a miserable flight over and there was a lot of turbulence as well L. After we had landed we rang our daughter to tell her what had happened so that she could look after everything at that end. Anyway, we arrived at the Elizabeth Apartments to a warm welcome and, when Costas looked at our suitcase, we explained we weren’t gypsies and told him what had happened. Everywhere we went in Roda, everyone was very kind in offering their invaluable help (like visits to Acharavi on the back of Costa’s bike J) and advice about where to buy clothes, flip-flops, razor blades and anything else to enjoy our holiday. Everything we needed was bought in Roda and Acharavi and there is even a shop in Acharavi (opposite Sconto supermarket) that sells clothes for women of the larger size.
Despite what had happened to us we had a great 2 weeks in Roda.
So the lesson to be learned from our story - always lock your car if you are going back in your house……………
EVEN FOR ONE MINUTE.

if we had got everything and went to strap the wife’s wheelchair in the car boot first (which was parked outside of our house). I then came back in for the suitcases and duly put them in the car boot before going back in the house to get a rucksack and a carrier bag of sandwiches/drinks which I placed on the back seat. My final leg was to go back into the house to get Linda and to lock up.
Well, on opening the car door, I noticed the rucksack was missing off the back seat and I thought I must have put the rucksack in the boot, hmmm… I thought, so I looked in the boot and SHOCK, HORROR, no suitcases or rucksack. I stood there for a bit and thought is someone playing a game and hidden the suitcases, until it dawned on me that they had been stolen L. Thankfully they left Linda’s wheelchair. I was

The trip to end all trips – METEORA. A once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit the famously isolated world heritage monasteries of Meteora, where the Greek orthodox religion was kept alive during the Turkish occupation and turbulent middle ages. Perched on vertical columns of sandstone, over 400m. high, Meteora needs to be seen to be believed. If you remember James Bond being raised in a basket up a sheer rock-face in ‘For Your Eyes Only’, then you have already seen a little of what Meteora has to offer. The trip takes you to the very centre of northern Greece and up to several of the monasteries overlooking the plain of Thessaly way below. Find out why hermits first settled here 1000 years ago, see how the monasteries support themselves today and take your cameras for some of the best views in Greece.

After a busy day Linda and I managed to get forty winks before we set off to the airport at 1:30am. I made the final check to see
